One of the largest electric bus terminals in Latin America
The Conqueror of Maipu “ had a cost of more than US 8 80 million, of which 8 were intended for construction and the remaining 72 million for the purchase of buses. The plant is supplied with 100% clean energy thanks to the use of solar panels.
This Thursday, the president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, inaugurated one of the largest electric bus terminals in Latin America. “El Conquistador De Maipú” is the most ambitious energy project for public transport in the country.
This terminal, of more than 15,000 m2, will allow 215 electric buses to be incorporated into the system. It had a cost of more than US 8 80 million, of which 8 million were destined for construction and the remaining 72 million for the purchase of buses.
These 215 electric buses will save 38 thousand tons of CO2 per year. What does this amount to? It is equivalent to the CO2 that 2 million trees capture. That is, this is equivalent to a forest the size of the commune of Santiago,” explained the Chilean President.
The inaugurated plant is supplied with 100% clean energy thanks to the use of solar panels. In addition, the terminal will benefit more than 2 million people who use public transport in Santiago.
As the authorities explained, the new buses include USB chargers that will be arranged for users. They also have wifi internet network, security cameras and air conditioning.
Currently, the public transport network of Santiago has 6,700 buses, and with the inauguration of this terminal 776 of them will be electric in the Metropolitan Region. With this, there are already a total of 10 electro terminals operating in Chile.
